You can take a stroll through the Jill Griesse Historic Garden while you enjoy live music. The garden is one of 32 gardens in the country that are designated as an American Daffodil Society Display Garden. Preserving The Robbins Hunter Museum For Future Generations

For over 180 years, the Avery-Downer House has stood as an enduring fixture in the Granville community. Recognized as Ohio’s foremost example of Greek Revival architecture, the building has housed families, fraternities, and Robbins Hunter, Jr., who gave his home to Licking County to become the museum we enjoy today. The Robbins Hunter Museum Board of Trustees takes seriously its mission to act as stewards of this important historical landmark and to share stories of the past with all who walk through our doors and gardens.

This has been another year of growth for the Robbins Hunter Museum! We continue to expand our programming through partnerships with community organizations–examples include the popular Music4U! concert series with the NGSO, preschool crafts, garden storytimes, and outdoor movies with the Granville Public Library, Market at the Museum with JustWrite, and the annual Scarecrow Invasion with Welsh Hills School. These activities extend the mission of the museum to a wider audience and engage them with its history.

In addition to the free, fun, and engaging tours given each week by our talented docents, events sponsored by the Robbins Hunter Museum attract guests throughout the year. In July, we hosted a highly-attended ceremony to honor Patricia Perry, co-founder of the Newark Homeless Outreach program, as the 2023 Victoria Woodhull Woman of Achievement. Our springtime Celebrating Daffodils event, as well as our historically-themed trees and decorations on display during the Granville Christmas Candlelight Walking Tour, bring thousands of guests to the museum and gardens throughout the changing seasons.

This year, the museum board received a Historical Structure Report, an in-depth examination of the Avery-Downer House, that provided a list of restoration priorities to guide our efforts in protecting this vital part of our community. There is much work to be done.

With that in mind during this season of giving, we ask that you consider an end-of-year gift to the museum. Your contribution will help toward the house’s restoration needs and support our continuing efforts to provide enriching programming and be a gathering place for the community. With your help, we can continue to steward the Robbins Hunter Museum for many years to come.

The Robbins Hunter Museum tells the stories of families, and we would like to invite you and your family to make memories at our museum through your new or renewed membership.

Your membership not only provides a host of useful benefits to cardholders but also helps support vital funding for our programs and operations. With the commitment of our members, we are able to provide free admission to this historic gem and continue to serve as a gathering place for our community.

In addition to our traditional incentives, we have exciting benefits for our new and renewing members, such as our Museum Member Holiday Preview.

New members will receive a gift of museum notecards, an invitation to a new member reception, and a special tour of the museum.

Join Our Board of Trustees

The Robbins Hunter Museum is looking for dynamic and engaged community members to join its Board of Trustees.

For over 30 years, our volunteer board has forwarded the museum’s mission to seek to strengthen community bonds through engagement with culture, history, and art while interpreting and preserving the architecturally significant Avery-Downer house and gardens. New board members would actively participate in furthering the museum’s mission through strategic planning, program development, community outreach, and fundraising.
